Beulah Baptist Church History

Founded in 1861 | Organized in 1872

Beulah Baptist Church traces its roots to 1861, although it was formally constituted in 1872. Early services were held in a log home near the present church property adjacent to Beulah Cemetery in Crescent City, Florida. The church's first settled pastor was Rev. C.A. Kager, and in 1873 Beulah joined the Santa Fe River Association before helping form the St. Johns River Baptist Association in 1877.

Throughout its history, Beulah experienced periods of growth and hardship. Membership grew to 40 by 1873 but declined following church discipline issues in 1879 and economic challenges after the devastating freeze of 1895–96. Despite times without a pastor and predictions that the church would not survive, faithful members kept the congregation active.

A Sunday School was established in 1926 under Superintendent J.N. Hogg. Membership fluctuated through the early and mid-1900s but began growing steadily in the 1960s. By 1974, membership had reached 97, and the church completed a major expansion that tripled its floor space while remaining debt-free.

In July 2000, Beulah began construction of its current facility at 106 Beulah Church Road. The original building continues to serve two mission congregations. Today, Beulah Baptist Church remains debt-free and committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through local, state, and worldwide ministry as a Southern Baptist church.

Beulah Baptist Church Core Values

In all ways Beulah Baptist Church aims to be:

God-centered – We seek to know and worship God. This is His Church.

Prayerful – The prayer life of this church will be foundational for all we

do.

Biblical – God has spoken, is speaking, and will speak in and through

his word. We are committed to teaching creatively and training people

in this way of life. We desire to be people who live out God’s word

daily.

Relevant – We will meet people where they are and introduce them to

a living God who is worthy of our worship.

Relational – Our goal is to develop relationships through which people

come to know Jesus and in which they are strengthened and grow in

their life with him. To be relational we will have to be authentic as we

‘share life’ together and demonstrate authentic practical love to others

in practical community ministry and service.

Radical – We will encourage the wholehearted, lifelong following of Jesus.

We will expect to see spiritual transformation in all areas of life and

consequently, will make a difference in our community (socially,

economically, politically, and practically).

Faithful – We are a people with a vision and people willing to take faith

steps when prompted by the Spirit to move towards God’s goal and

engage in creative ministry projects and programs.

Focused – To be this kind of church, we need to focus and prioritize to

achieve excellence in what we do.
